Northwestern Wildcats football, Michigan Wolverines to compete for the George Jewett Trophy.This season, Michigan and Northwestern will start competing for the George Jewett Trophy, a new soccer rivalry trophy that honors the first Black player in the history of the Big Ten, who played in the 1890s for both teams.The Jewett Trophy is the FBS's first rivalry trophy named after a former black player.On Oct. 23 at Michigan Stadium, Michigan and Northwestern will compete for the first time for the Jewett Trophy.Several FCS team rivalry games are named for Black athletes, including those with historically Black college and university teams.Before returning to Ann Arbor, where he had several companies, Jewett became a physician in Chicago.
